What do you do for a living?
Sales & Marketing… I help companies with their branding, start to finish. Graphic design, printing, promotional/marketing material, branded apparel, etc.
How did you first connect with The Herren Project?
My sister Meghan was involved with THP first when fundraising for the NYC Marathon… once I found out more about the organization, it instantly became something I wanted to be a part of. The following year, I got on board and Meghan and I both raised money and represented this amazing organization. Since then, this was something I have made a big part of my life. The meaning behind THP hits home with me as I grew up with a family member battling addiction… Being a part of this assures me that I am not alone and there are so many people who are struggling to fight addiction, in recovery or a family member/friend like myself.. Having the support of so many inspiring people is the way we can all work together to positively impact the lives of those who are suffering because at the end of the day, it’s a family disease. To say I am grateful to have connected with the THP would be a complete understatement… This organization has been life changing to say the very least.
Who’s one of your running or athletic “heroes” and why?
Triathlon is my sport of choice so I could easily say Heather Jackson or Chrissie Wellington, both with a bunch of 140.6 distance podium finishes…
But my favorite hero is Chris Herren, without question. Despite his unbelievable talent on the basketball court, I think of Chris as a hero based on the way he has turned his life around and now is giving every piece of his heart and soul through helping others.. Traveling around the world telling his story, teaching people that it’s never too late to battle back from adversity to make your dreams reality, starting up The Herren Project, Project Purple & Herren Wellness… Every person and every situation he encounters, he makes it personal and will do anything he can in his power to help which is something I have seen and been a part of first hand. Chris rose from addiction and let his struggles from his past guide him to the path he’s on now.. He knows what the struggle feels like from the inside and out but he doesn’t let that stop him from changing the world: one person and one family at a time..
What’s your favorite running/race distance?
My favorite race distance is a half distance triathlon… 70.3 miles.
What are you most proud of?
I’m proud to be a part of a world that’s so much bigger than just me. For my Dad who has a heart of gold. He has always grinded day in and day out to give my family everything we could ever dream of and has never stopped believing in us. For my Mom, one of the strongest women I have ever met and forever my biggest fan. Everyday, she fights to find her inner strength to become a better version of herself than she was the day before. I’m proud of my siblings. Meghan, Colin & Kiersten. Our unconditional love and support for one another is something I truly cherish and my heart is filled knowing that we are all the best of friends. I’m proud of my family, my friends, my personal accomplishments and I’m already proud of the journey ahead of me and for everyone and everything I encounter along the way. I’m blessed in every aspect of my life…
